Review of OCTOBER 2011
With
plenty of contacts between Venus and Mercury,
October was an eventful month, especially for
legal decisions. We had the headline-grabbing
acquittal of Amanda Knox, jailed for the
murder of Meredith Kercher, after her appeal
hearing in Italy. This occurred when both were part of a
stellium of planets in Libra, sign of justice
and the law. Later with Venus and Mercury
having ingressed into vindictive, sometimes vengeful
Scorpio, from where they opposed the Moon
and Jupiter, politician, Liam Fox, was
forced to resign amidst scandalous rumours about
his association with Adam Werritty. A few days
after the ingress of the Sun into Scorpio,
Colonel Gaddafi, Libya's notorious dictator, was shot
dead by rebels in the eastern desert of the
country as he tried to evade arrest.
Towards the
end of the month, as a retrograde Jupiter in
conservative Taurus edged towards a trine with
survivalist Pluto in the sign of the
establishment, Capricorn, UK Prime Minister,
David Cameron experienced a large backbench rebellion
over the issue of the UK’s EU membership. This came
on the eve of emergency talks amongst European
leaders about about how to save the European Union
from financial collapse.
On the day
in question (25th), only responsible,
slow-moving Saturn remained in even-handed
Libra – the sign of Cameron’s Sun – the
rest of the personal planets having moved into ambitious
and occasionally ruthless Scorpio. At the time, the
Sun in Scorpio was opposing Jupiter – rather
symbolically descriptive of the bold but
rather disloyal rebellion. However, cautious
Saturn was also sextiling warlike Mars in Leo –
the sign of royalty and charismatic leaders.
It is also the sign ruled by the Sun; whilst Mars
is the traditionally considered to be the ruler of
Scorpio. Astrologically, this resulted in a mutual
reception – in which both planets swop places - which in
effect, reversed the effect of the
Sun-Jupiter opposition, ultimately resulting in a
resounding defeat for the rebels when the matter was put
to a vote in the House of Commons on the 25th.
In his
speech the next day, Cameron was reported as saying:
"It wouldn't be right for the country right now to
have a great big vote on an in-out referendum". Note the
Jupiterian connotations of the words ‘great big
vote…’ It is also no coincidence that the move appeared to
have been motivated by concerns about the financial
viability of Europe and the prospect of the UK being
drawn into bailing out many of the EU’s failing banks – an
issue ruled by materialistic and conservative
Taurus – the sign in which Jupiter was located at the
time of the motion.
The hand of Pluto can
also be seen in the idea of an in-out referendum.
Pluto is a very all-or-nothing planet - so
the call for decisive action concerning Great
Britain’s involvement in Europe is very in keeping with
its rather extreme, survivalist nature.
It is interesting that Cameron had to
resort to fairly punitive, some might say,
Scorpionic measures to keep his MP’s in line
though – a three-line whip. A BBC news report the
following day reflected this very clearly:
-
‘Asked
whether he regretted the order - which meant any
Conservative MP who voted against the government would
be expected to resign from government jobs - he said:
"No I don't, in politics you have to try to confront
the big issues, rather than try to sweep them
under the carpet and that's what we did yesterday."’[i]
A statement
redolent with Scorpio-like undertones...After this
incident, politicians will be in no doubt about the fact
that David Cameron is a man to be reckoned with
– and many will probably respect him more as a leader
as a result.
As for
Europe, with transformative Pluto’s continued
presence in Capricorn, sign of the establishment, it
seems that major reform, possibly even the
dissolution, of those institutions based on
shaky foundations, is inevitable. However, as
Cameron himself has hinted at, the timing is everything,
and trying to force the UK government and its people to make
big decisions about its role in Europe
"could cause
great uncertainty and could actually damage our prospects of
growth."
SOLI-LUNAR
PHASES
Over the course of a year, the
solstices and
equinoxes of the Sun mark
out the changing seasons, which affect not
only the beginning of different natural cycles, but
our moods and choice of activities; whilst on
a smaller scale, the Moon's phases make up the
time-span of a month. In fact, the etymology
of the word month, comes from the
Indo-European
word,
'me(n)ses',
meaning
"moon." 1
During
this period, the Moon also moves through the
zodiac, with every progressive full or new
moon cycle occurring in the sign more or
less following that of the previous month.
Lunar Phases
With the lunar phases currently out of sync
with our calendar months, the New Moon in
Libra actually occurs in late September and we will not
experience another New Moon until the end of
October.
NEW MOON IN SCORPIO
26 October 2011
The New Moon in
Scorpio on the 26th (19h56 GMT)
is auspicious for initiating new research
programmes, revamping your sex life or taking
part in deep discussions about occult
subjects. Scorpio is also ruled by Mars in
traditional astrology, which links both New
and Full Moon in terms of its military connections
and associations with blood and surgery.
In modern astrology, though, Scorpio is ruled
by Pluto. Given the return of Pluto-ruled
themes in September due to the stationing
of Pluto, it may be interesting to see if on an
individual level, any personal issues that were
prominent around springtime this year,
particularly around themes like power,
control and whether or not to seek retribution
now return in a new form.
FULL MOON IN TAURUS
10
November 2011
The Full Moon in Taurus
on the 10th of November (20h16 GMT)
brings to a close matters related to banking,
personal possessions or finances and real
estate. This is an excellent time to consolidate your
finances, sell property and make important decisions about
income, jobs and personal resources. Outstanding fees and
payments are likely to come in around now.
NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE IN
SAGITTARIUS
25 November 2011
The New Moon on the
25th (06h10 GMT) coincides with a
partial solar eclipse in Sagittarius. You can
read more about what this event might mean for you
between now and next Spring in my Winter Eclipse Special
Report Horoscopes, which will be published on my website
towards the end of the month.
Solar Phases
SUN INTO SAGITTARIUS
23 November 2011
The Sun
will remain in Scorpio until 16h08 on the
22nd of November when it ingresses
into optimistic and adventurous Sagittarius.
Expect your conscious energy to be focused on
expansive, jovial activities that uplift
the spirits and widen your perspective or
personal horizons such as exploratory research,
spiritually oriented activities or travel.
On the 25th, a solar eclipse, also
in Sagittarius, initiates a new six-month cycle
along similar themes. Around this time,
the Sun and Moon will
square Mars and trine Uranus. Although this could
spell irritability and emotional volatility,
it may also result in unexpectedly brilliant insights
that stand to bring about personal success if
implemented constructively between now and
May.
To find out more about how events could potentially
play out for you, look out for my
Winter Eclipse Special Report,
which I will publish on my website towards the end of
November.
Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout NOVEMber 2011
On the 9th of
November, Neptune ends its annual period
of retrograde motion. This signals a time
to focus your creative and psychic energies
on the future, and to share any
healing, artistic or compassionate urges with
the world rather than keeping them private.
Neptune’s brief return to Aquarius
suggests that the development or application
of technology that improves the lives of
others in some way is a worthy pursuit over the
next few months.
The day before the
solar eclipse (24th) Mercury, planet of
commerce, travel and communication, will change
direction, remaining retrograde until the 15th
of December 2011. As well as using this time to
reflect on past mistakes and take a cautious approach
to business negotiations, written contracts
or important discussions, it may also be a good idea
to complete your online Christmas shopping early
– if a retrograde Mercury is any indication, it is very
likely that postal and delivery systems may run as
efficiently as usual this year.
