MARCH 2007 ECLIPSES

The first set of eclipses this year occur in Virgo and Pisces. Here's a breakdown of the possible effects they may have for you in the first half of 2007...

The March 2007 Eclipses

On the 3rd and 19th of March, we will experience a total lunar eclipse in Virgo, followed by a solar eclipse in Pisces.

Just a reminder that eclipses don’t always make themselves felt straight away – occasionally they have a delayed effect. It may therefore be worth your while to note what happens a month to the day later for the solar eclipse and what happens at the next Full Moon with a lunar eclipse. For this eclipse, that means watch the 13th of April (Full Moon) and the 29th of April…

General Theme

With the Virgo-Pisces polarity, the issue of physical and spiritual health will be important, as will the theme of the dream vs the reality. Virgo's deal with facts and details - they are earth signs after all, whilst watery Pisces floats in the realm of feelings, dreams, intuition and the esoteric. Whilst this may mean you are more receptive to psychic messages and in tune with your gut instincts, be careful not to confuse these with delusions, wishful thinking or self-deceptive tendencies. Mercury is still retrograde at this time, so mixed messages or confusion is common. Healing is a common element to both signs, so this is probably a good time to reflect on how you could bring about healing in your own body or psyche at this time.

According to Bernadette Brady, the March 2007 eclipses form part of the 9 New North family, which began in August 1664. Brady claims that this series seems to involve physical or sporting accidents because of an overall Mars/Uranus quality. Mars rules any vigorous activity, including sports and driving, whilst Uranus rules sudden or unexpected events, which include accidents but can also be more pleasant in nature. However, Uranus is currently in the zodiac sign of Pisces and will be in a fairly close opposition to the full moon solar eclipse. This means that unpleasant, rather than pleasant surprises are more likely at this time.

Also worth noting is the Saturn-Neptune opposition in Leo-Aquarius that occurs on the 28th of February, a few days before the eclipse on March the 3rd. This event is the second in a series of 3 such aspects between these two planets, the first occurring on August the 31st 2006 and the last taking place on the 25th of June 2007. The most recent one of February/March, may set a particular tone or atmosphere for the eclipses.

Traditionally this planetary pairing can result in weariness and lack of energy, feeling drained or depressed, ill health and a depletion of resources. This aspect is also associated with dishonesty, the surfacing of neurotic or sub-conscious fears or insecurities, and the public disclosure of past misdeeds - something quite possible in British politics right now, giving the current wrangling for power amongst Labour MP's for the leadership position, in the wake of Blair's decision to leave government in the autumn.

Interestingly, we are due another eclipse then, so we'll have to see if any themes emerge in politics around both these times.

It is worth noting that the Saturn-Neptune contacts are rare events in and of themselves, and so worth taking note of. The last one exactly like this (involving the same aspect and in the same sign) took place back in the 1600's. However, Saturn-Neptune oppositions in other signs occur more frequently, usually every 36 years or so, the previous one having occurred in 1971-72, so those of you born around about then could be especially sensitive to these  vibrations. Back then Saturn was in Gemini, and Neptune in Sagittarius, both mutable signs, so their effects would have been more subtle. A Closer Look at the Two Eclipses....

Here is a brief outline of the effect of each eclipse and the area of life it most likely affected….

Lunar eclipse in Virgo

Lunar eclipses highlight the feminine aspect and are therefore likely to involve women, mothers and revolve around lunar issues, such as birth, family, the home, diet & nourishment, instincts, knee-jerk responses, emotions and daily routine. The emphasis in energy is generally inwardly-focused and more subtle in nature.

Date:     3 March 2007 22h44

Sign:      13^ Virgo

Virgo is associated with qualities like details & precision, service & reliability, modesty and practicality. It is also connected to herbalism, healing and a life of purity, as aspired to by monks, nuns and ascetics. Negatively, it can indicate fussiness, a critical nature, frigidity, conservatism and anal-retentiveness.

Mercury, ruler of Virgo, was retrograde in Pisces at the time, causing mix-ups and misunderstandings. Virgo and Pisces are polar opposite energies, causing tension. Thus, there is a likelihood of people working at cross-purposes during this time.

Moon phase:      Full Moon

The moon was full, signalling endings, culmination points, fulfilment and crisis points. Full moons are often associated with a time of increased emotion too.

Total eclipse in Pisces

Solar eclipses emphasise the masculine or yang aspect and is therefore associated with males, father-figures, authority, self-awareness and self-expression, the ego. The focus in energy is generally outward and therefore more likely to manifest in the form of external events.

Date:     19 March 2007

Sign:      28^ Pisces

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and therefore associated with endings, lack of boundaries, self-sacrifice, compassion, a tendency to go with the flow, empathy, dreaminess, inspiration, spirituality, subtlety, romanticism and purity. Negative Pisces characteristics include: self-destruction, deceptiveness, passivity, confusion, obscurity, escapism, victim-saviour complexes, delusions and extreme sensitivity which can lead to insecurity.

The solar eclipse In Pisces may indicate the arrival of a male figure in your life who stands to become a spiritual influence in your life. Or you could meet someone who is rather mysterious - he or she may not be all that they seem...

Pisces also rules dreams and emotions, so these aspects of your personality may become rather pronounced at this time. Make a note of your dreams, for they may be more vivid than usual and could be trying to give you a message from your sub-conscious about an important matter. Your intuition will be strong around about now, so try and get in touch with that still voice which exists within you, underneath all the chatter of your thoughts, and listen to what it is trying to tell you. This is a good time to go for healing sessions or psychic readings and for taking charge of your inner well-being and mind-body balance.

Or this could be the start of a new emotional chapter for you, perhaps a new relationship or the letting go of an old one? If indeed, this is the case for you, try not to let the fear of loneliness be the only reason you stay in a bad relationship - remember that one has to let go of old shores in order to catch sight of new ones. Solar eclipses are a time to make big changes, so make the most of this energy and allow yourself to enter a new cycle of growth and well-being.

Uranus, planet of uproar and sudden or unexpected events, is in opposition to this sun-moon conjunction, meaning it stands to colour both emotions and outward events or people in your life and how they act at this time.

Moon phase:      New Moon

Because an eclipse happens between the sun and the moon, there will always be a moon phase involved! Solar eclipses always occur at New Moon because this is when both luminaries are on the same side of the earth. New Moons are generally linked with new cycles or a change in direction.
