SEPTEMBER 2006 ECLIPSES |
The second set of eclipses in 2006 are in Pisces and Virgo. Here's a breakdown of the possible effects they may have on your life... |

The September 2006 Eclipses On the 7th and 22nd of September, we will experience our second set of eclipses for 2006, a lunar eclipse in Pisces, followed by an annular solar eclipse in Virgo. The lunar eclipse will fall in the opposite sign to that of the March lunar eclipse, which was in Virgo....this has the effect of balancing out of the energies experienced during the last lunar eclipse. Unlike the March eclipses, which weren't in opposite zodiac signs, this pair is. Virgo and Pisces sit exactly 180 degrees apart from each other on the astrological wheel which means that they represent diametrically opposite energies. However there is often a common thread which links them. In this case it is the need to serve or sacrifice themselves for a great purpose. Virgo is all about making the choice to be useful to others. Often Virgos are workaholics who give up their personal time and energy to help their bosses or company succeed. Pisceans are less concerned about work but with more ethereal or spiritual matters. They tend to sacrifice themselves for the good of humanity or to a higher cause such as a religious cause. In some way their service tends to be towards the group or whole of society whereas a Virgo's idea of service tends to be more individual or personal, more specifically-aimed... However both signs are also very different. Virgo is an earth sign and therefore more concerned with practical matters such as health, diet, getting the job done or planning things down to the finest details. Pisces, ruled by the planet Neptune, is a water sign and therefore more emotional and dreamy than Virgo. Pisces is less concerned about the detail and more with how to merge with the whole as well as mass or group-type activities. With the Virgo/Pisces axis activated from September 2006, you will be learning important lessons about work-life balance, ecology, the body vs the spirit, the details vs the overview and the many ways to be of service or use to a greater cause. Just a reminder that eclipses don’t always make themselves felt straight away – occasionally they have a delayed effect. It may therefore be worth your while to note what happens a month to the day later for the solar eclipse and what happens at the next Full Moon with a lunar eclipse. For this eclipse, that means watch the 7th of October (Full Moon) and the 22nd of October… General ThemeFrom an astronomical point of view, the solar eclipse takes place in the southern hemisphere so those of us who are in Europe will not be able to see it. The best vantage point will be near Brazil in South America. Most of the eclipse action will happen out in the Atlantic Ocean so those on land will only be able to see the start of it at sunrise. According to the astronomers, about 12% of the sun will remain uncovered by the New Moon so one could almost say that the Sun will ‘prevail’ over the Moon – could this have symbolic meaning, light and reason triumphing over darkness and irrational behaviour? The glamorous astrologer for Vogue, Shelley von Strunckle, has suggested that this eclipse may bring news about an ecological issue. The sudden and unexpected death of Steve (Crocodile Dundee) Irvin, the Australian naturalist in a underwater diving accident certainly seems to fit the bill. Not only was he in the natural element of Pisces but he was killed by a sea creature, a stingray whilst 'in the line of duty' - making a nature documentary series... According to Australian astrologer, Bernadette Brady, this eclipse series is associated with issues of ecology, death and bereavement, separation and loss. See my Recent & Future Eclipses column for more information…However, perhaps there is some hope encapsulated in the idea of light winning out over darkness? A Closer Look at the Two Eclipses....Here is a brief outline of the effect of each eclipse and the area of life it most likely affected…. Lunar eclipse in Pisces Lunar eclipses highlight the feminine aspect and are therefore likely to involve women, mothers and revolve around lunar issues, such as birth, family, the home, diet & nourishment, instincts, knee-jerk responses and daily routine. Date: 7 September 2006 Sign: Pisces The emphasis in energy is generally inwardly-focused and emotional in nature. This is especially true of this eclipse - Pisces is highly emotional and sensitive sign. People who are influenced by Pisces often find it difficult to tell the difference between their own and someone else's feelings. This is because of their high degree of empathy and identification with the collective. If you have found yourself getting emotionally fixated on what are really very petty issues, then the Pisces eclipse will help you to see the big picture and stop 'sweating the small stuff'....Pisces is also very much about activating our compassionate side which may help us to overcome any over-critical tendencies which may be marring our sense of perspective and preventing us from feeling happy and fulfilled. This eclipse may well help to re-balance any issues related to the last lunar eclipse. Thus, we might be feeling the need to bring a sense of spirituality or ethical values into the workplace or we may start to recognise the link between body and mind in manifesting illness or a state of well-being. On a more general scale, our attitudes towards ethical food, the practical application of religious principles and global ecology may become topical at this time. Moon phase: Full Moon The moon was full, signalling endings, culmination points, fulfilment and crisis points. Full moons are often associated with a time of increased emotion too. Total eclipse in Virgo Solar eclipses emphasise the masculine or yang aspect and is therefore associated with males, father-figures, authority, self-awareness and self-expression, the ego. The focus in energy is generally outward and therefore more likely to manifest in the form of external events. Date: 22 September 2006 Sign: Virgo Virgo is a mutable earth sign and is associated with practicality, detail, healing, body issues, craftmanship and hard work. Negative Virgo characteristics include: anal retentiveness, being overcritical, verbal carping or nagging, lack of spontaneity, a tendency to avoid making decisions or taking overall responsibility, fussiness and small mindedness. Interestingly, the Sun will move into Libra the very next day, the 23rd of September, so perhaps we could view this eclipse as a sort of cusp-like event, a fork in the road or a time of balancing out or choice between two opposing energies? Pluto, planet of transformation and regeneration, went retrograde on the same day as the March eclipse, which might have hindered or slowed down the changes initiated back then or hidden their effects from view. Pluto returns to direct motion on the 5th of September, just before the lunar eclipse, possibly adding a certain emotional drama or extreme element to how the effects of the eclipse manifests...The Moon will also be square to Pluto at the time of the solar eclipse so this highly explosive influence may colour the way in which this event unfolds for all of us. Powerful and unequivocal change seems to be the result, so be prepared to accept that once something or someone leaves your life, there is no going back…. Alternatively, you may encounter someone at this time with a very overbearing or intolerant attitude who may attempt to control you, impose their views on you or make life difficult. They will have a very black and white attitude to life and be unwilling to compromise or make allowances for mitigating circumstances – I wouldn’t advise going to court on this day – it looks like the judge could be a bit harsh in his sentencing! Moon phase: New Moon Because an eclipse happens between the sun and the moon, there will always be a moon phase involved! Solar eclipses always occur at New Moon because this is when both luminaries are on the same side of the earth. New Moon are linked to new beginnings or a change in direction. Areas of life affectedBelow is a list of the likely areas of life highlighted or influenced at this time by the solar eclipse, classified according to sign. You can also cross-reference this by looking at the entry for your rising sign or Ascendant.
